After Obsession by Carrie Jones and Steven Wedel

Aimee has been having nightmares for a long time. When her mother was alive, she would share the details of these nightmares. With her mother gone, Aimee struggles to appear normal to her family and her friends. Her visions are getting stronger and harder to hide.

Alan is new to town, moving to Goffstown, Maine after his cousin Courtney's dad goes missing. Alan is not happy with the move, especially since the high school doesn't have a football team. Then he meets Aimee--first in a dream and then in real life. Alan tries to remain true to his Native American heritage and realizes something isn't right in Goffstown and Courtney may be at the center of it.

Together, Aimee and Alan must find a way to confront and defeat an ancient evil plaguing the town--specifically, Courtney. Aimee also believes her mother may be involved. The River Man is powerful and Aimee and Alan aren't sure if they can do this and survive.

Engrossing. I enjoy paranormal romance stories anyway, but the alternative voice here is an added bonus. The River Man is creepy and powerful. Alan and Aimee come across as believable and their story works well together.

Prom Dates from Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore

Just weeks from graduation, Maggie Quinn just wants to keep a low-profile and get out of Avalon High as quickly as she can. Not so easy when Stanley, a guy "lower in the high school food chain," asks her to prom. She has no intention of going. Not for anyone.

That day changes Maggie's life forever. She has a gift she's been trying to ignore, but her nightmares are back. In gym, as everyone lines up for diving, Maggie's fear of the water is paralyzing. As Karen heads up to dive off the low board, Maggie sees a shadow in the water and then Karen slips, hits her head, and falls into the water. Not long after, some other people in school are also targeted and Maggie's gift for sensing when things aren't right goes off left and right.

Someone's raised something and set a curse on people at her school. And going to prom may be the only way to set things right.

Yes, I read this book all in one setting, and I really want to read the other two. Maggie is a great character and I was laughing many times at her comments and the things that were happening in her story. Just enough of a creepy factor for me too.

Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore

Amy Goodnight is the 'normal' person in a family of witches. She herself was fascinated by ghosts until a tragic incident when she was 11 almost killed her and her sister. Now she tries to suppress that part of her nature and keep her family's secret.

For the next month, Amy is watching over her aunt's farm along with her sister Phin. While Phin will be dealing with keeping all the plants alive, Amy is in charge of all the animals. Which is how she meets Ben, the cute rancher from next door. That's also how she learns about the ghost plaguing Ben's ranch.

Amy is thrust back into the supernatural when she most definitely wants to be left alone. But how long can she deny what's a part of her?

A good paranormal romance. Lots of humor and creepy points--especially good for a ghost story.

Ghost Hunt: Chilling Tales of the Unknown by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson

This is a collection of short ghost stories from the TAPS group so well-known from Sci-Fi.

Most of the stories are definitely spooky. Some of them are ok, and some could do without the beginning story or the interaction of the staff. On the whole, entertaining.

Spirit Seeker by Joan Lowery Nixon

Holly's life is full of small stresses. The strain on her from her parents' marriage, school, friends, and just being a teenager.

Then Holly's father--a police detective--comes home to tell her Cody, her boyfriend, is a suspect in the murder of his parents.

Holly must race the clock in order to prove Cody's innocence--even though all the evidence points at him. And she needs to open herself up to the abilities she's tried to ignore.

Some paranormal aspects in the story. Holly is a sympathetic character, and although a lot of the situations need a heavy suspension of disbelief, the action, mystery, and solution are well done. The reader is left questioning Cody's guilt and Holly's belief right to the end.

Deadly Little Secret by Laurie Stolarz

Camelia is your typical junior in high school. She has good friends, gets along with her parents, and has, to this point, not caused any trouble. Then Ben, the new guy, saves her life. And she can't stop thinking about him.

So when the first picture appears in her mailbox, she shrugs it off as a joke. Then a gift appears on the window sill of her second story bedroom. Then the phone calls. And even more pictures appear. Her friends all suspect Ben, who has a mysterious past including the suspicious death of his last girlfriend. But Camelia isn't so sure. And the stalker isn't willing to wait for her for long.

Lots of suspense and romance thrown together to balance nicely. You aren't sure who Camelia can trust through most of the book. Every few chapters you get insight into the stalker's mind, but the author is careful to give hints about who it could be without throwing suspicion on anyone specifically. There is some paranormal stuff thrown in here as well with Ben's gift. A well-written suspenseful novel--I can't wait to read Deadly Little Lies.

I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked It by Adam Selzer

Alley can't believe the craze vampires, werewolves, and zombies have stirred up. Ever since they've gone public, most teens try to be goth or just date one--everyone wants to be a vampire or werewolf. Not Alley though. She and her friends stand back and watch the mayhem without getting too involved.

Then she meets Doug, and to her, he's the perfect kind of guy. They like the same music and he isn't a poser--he's the real thing. She ignores the warning signs until all the popular girls tell her they're dying to meet him. Apparently, Doug is a zombie--something Alley didn't figure out on her own. Now she has to decide if she's going to die to be with him or break up. Before a vampire decides for her.

As a satire on the whole paranormal romance movement, it succeeds. However, by the way the author narrates through Alley, it's apparent he didn't date in high school. The characters are all stereotypical girls and guys--girls and guys are both attractive and pretty brain-dead. Alley's comments and observations are amusing. The book was very entertaining--hand off to anyone annoyed with the Twilight era.
